About Bates Lovett
Founder Bates Lovett is an accomplished trial attorney who represents property owners and investors with their complex commercial property taxes. He operates in Georgia, the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama. Bates’ primary focus is property tax appeals for multifamily housing including market rent, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), USDA, and HUD funding. In his years of experience, he has appealed ad valorem taxes for properties in excess of $850 million.
Bates serves as the appointed City Attorney for the City of Savannah. His dual service in the public and private sectors gives him a unique perspective that benefits his clients in ways that other consultants cannot provide.
Bates holds both a J.D. and B.A. from the University of Georgia, where he graduated from both programs with honors. A recipient of the Bryant T. Castellano academic scholarship, he was also a member of the Moot Court Team and served on the editorial board of the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law while in school.
Before his career in civil litigation, Bates started as an assistant district attorney for the Cobb County Crimes Against Women and Children Unit. He was also an ADA in Rockdale County where he served as the Domestic Violence Prosecutor.
